"You've Got A Friend" (Talent Show)

A life of a teacher is colorful. Being a teacher does not end up just teaching nor making lesson plans or visual aids. On several occasions, a teacher may take roles such as being a mom/dad, a friend, a mentor, a facilitator, a curriculum developer, a show director, etc. Thus having a lot of great opportunities for teachers to impact young minds in various areas.

This however, does not make a teacher resilient at all times. There are a lot of times we feel vulnerable and weak specially during the time of the year when we need to come up with a ‘show’. This I can particularly identify with my husband, Butch who is also a teacher. I guess it also depends when one likes “creative performing arts” type of thing which does not apply to all teachers. But hey, what do you do when you are faced with such situation..? – deal with it and smile.

On this note, it is good to save and share current ideas (something to do with talent shows) to make some lives easier down the road =). Here is an overall gist of a “You’ve Got A Friend” theme for a show. It partially includes “Rainbow Fish” theme too just to extend the show into 30 minutes as required by the school. It comes with a script, ideas for costumes and back drops. Hope this helps start up some new ideas for you.

The background seaweed look-alike stuff are all cut-outs made of “future boards” and the bases are empty boxes covered with black garbage plastic. Those dark green, light green, purple and brown stuff are crumpled papers which were was attached to the boxes and of course some small printed fish. Great ideas from my husbands’ Thai teacher partners.
This ‘fish’ thing is a wrap-around costume which is made of colored paper boards and also some round colored papers which were folded into half to represent its scales.

I would also like to add some props-ideas from my co-teacher, Priscelle Joy Utzurium (teacher PJ) for her show which was about “Amazon”. Thanks teacher Joy! =)
