Short e Reading Practice Booklet

Finally I had the chance to add another set of this “Homework Reading Practice” booklet. In the same manner with short ‘a’ activity sheets, this booklet is intended for readers who need more practice for phonics. These words can help your child learn to recognize familiar patterns in words. These reading activities are recommended as homework once the lesson has been taught in the class. There are no picture clues provided for each word-family, as we will try to focus mainly on blending and sounding out the words. At times, picture clues take away the challenge for the children to blend and read diligently.

Once your child has read down a word from each word-family list, s/he must check the box on the ‘child’ column. Parents can also check the box on the ‘parents’ column once they see their child able to read the target word.  At the end of the page is a place where the teacher can sign, comment, or perhaps write the date once the child has completed reading the whole word-family list. Instructions and ‘how to’ are provided on the third page of the booklet.

After reading the word-family list, your child will then have to read the word-family within few sentences. This pattern continues for a total of 7 short a family-words.  When reading the passages, please try to guide your child with some big words or sight words used in the passages. Also, follow-up questions are provided at the end in order to check the child’s comprehension about the passage. In the same way, the student, parent, and teacher must check and confirm designated places to signify completion of work.

Reminder, before starting to read each word-family, please try to make sure your child remembers individual letter-sounds and letter-formation found on the fourth page of this booklet.

Please refer to the link below on how to assemble this booklet. https://rakdekkindertrailorg.wordpress.com/freebies/early-readers-word-work-activities/short-a-reading-practice-booklet/
